Why Stirling?
Stirling - the Gateway to the Highlands
Did you know that Stirling used to be the capital of Scotland? The title was shared with Edinburgh until the early 1600s, when Edinburgh became the only capital city. Stirling is located in central Scotland and is 26 miles northeast of Glasgow, and 37 miles northwest of Edinburgh. Therefore it is a great base for a Scotland trip - it's well connected to pretty much everywhere in the country. Its most famous landmarks are the well-preserved Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
Stirling was granted city status in 2022, which makes Stirling the youngest city in Scotland. It is also a "young" place in another way: the town has a population of 38,000 people, with students making up about 14,000 of the inhabitants.
